About Waitaki Health Services

Our purpose is to champion and provide trusted, quality health services within our community. Our vision is to become a progressive, positive and caring organisation delivering a responsive, accessible and modern health service.

Waitaki District Health Services operates Oamaru Hospital, the only hospital providing secondary level healthcare services to the population of the Waitaki District. The catchment population is approximately 22,000 within a large boundary area of approximately 8,990 square kilometres.

At Oamaru Hospital, Waitaki District Health Services offers inpatient and emergency services, maternity, and radiology. Our services in the wider community (from a base at Oamaru Hospital) include district nursing, social work, clinical needs assessment, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Waitaki District Health Services Limited is committed to providing quality health care services to the community that we serve.

We believe in our people to deliver on our vision, and we do this through fostering advocacy, working with Safer Waitaki, and a number of professional networks in the Waitaki and New Zealand. Effective communication between staff, patients, their whānau and the wider community is a big part of what we do and we encourage active listening. As a business, we pride ourselves on providing the necessary infrastructure to allow our staff and the community to thrive. This means our business can continue to be a valuable and sustainable part of the wider Waitaki region.
